Subjective Visions is a title of an exhibition of works from the collection of the Stella Art Foundation brought to Thessaloniki in the context of the Moscow-Thessaloniki-2009 program. After the Viennese Kunsthistorisches Museum and the 53rd Venice Biennale, the exhibition will be on show from September 19 to November 1 at MIET’s Thessaloniki Cultural Center.
The exhibition features, in particular, works by Nikita Alexeyev, Yuri Avvakumov, Michael Craig-Martin, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Joseph Kosuth, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andrei Monastyrsky. The exhibition’s curator Thalea Stefanidou notes in her essay for the catalogue to be issued on the occasion of the event: “A collection accumulates fragments of creative time, creating documentations of the past for the future, while curating plays with the poetic quality of both the ephemeral and the accidental, and thus brings the collection to life in the present, inducing the spectator-accomplice.”
Stella Art Foundation is a non-commercial organization created in November 2004 at the initiative of collector Stella Kesaeva for the development of cultural exchanges, promotion of work of Russian artists and institution of contemporary art museum in Moscow.
The Foundation takes a very dynamic part in all the major international contemporary art events (documenta, Venetian ое Biennale) and cooperates with important museum institutions of different countries (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Ca’ Rezzonico, Venice). It is also implementing an extensive charity program.
Starting from October 2008, the Foundation arranged presentations of its collection at some major European sites, always working in cooperation with local curators who select the theme of each exhibition and the works presented.
