Stella Art Foundation (SAF) inaugurates its contemporary art gallery on November 28, 2003, at the junction of Malaya Nikitskaya Str. and Skaryatinsky Pereulok, with an exhibition of unique works by classic Pop Art artists.
The exhibition will feature original works by Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann and Jean-Michel Basquiat, three outstanding representatives of this movement. Stella Art is the first Moscow gallery to display museum-level works of foreign Pop Art authors. The enthusiasm that accompanied Andy Warhol’s 2002 Moscow exhibition clearly suggests that the unveiling of the Foundation’s gallery promises to become a major event in the cultural life of the Russian capital city. The event acquires even greater weight due to the fact that works by Tom Wesselmann and Jean-Michel Basquiat have not so far been on view anywhere in Russia, and that the pictures that are being brought for the exhibition are among the best works of these artists.
The Foundation has published an illustrated catalogue of the exhibition with an essay by Achille Bonito Oliva.
