Moscow-based Stella Art Foundation presents in Thessaloniki part of its
collection, with a series of exhibitions and projects arranged in cooperation
with artBΟΧ.gr | creative arts
management, in the context and with the assistance of the Second Thessaloniki
Contemporary Art Biennale.
The Warehouse # 3 at our city port will feature Making Words, a project of the Moscow Poetry Club, Common Cause-3, a project by Igor
Makarevich and Elena Elagina and Poets
Machine, a project by Yula Hadjigeorgiou. Making Words, presented at this year's Venice Biennale in the
context of the Making Worlds exhibition
set up by the Biennale director Daniel Birnbaum, combines poetry and visual
actions.
The Thessaloniki project will involve Greek, Cypriot and Russian poets:
Vassilis Amanatidis, Phoebi Yannisi, Katerina Iliopoulou (in a joint
performance with artist Yannis Isidorou), Dimitra Kationi, Dimitris Lentzakos,
Dafni Nikita, Yannis Stigas, Gennady Kanevsky, Kirill Kovaldzhi, Alexei
Korolev, Vadim Mesiats, Eugeny Nikitin and Andrei Tavrov.
The Cultural Center of the Educational Foundation of the National Bank's
Thessaloniki branch will be hosting till November 1 an exhibition Subjective Visions (curated by art
historian Thalea Stefanidou) with works from the collection of the Stella Art
Foundation. The exhibition is distinguished by its good choice of works, as
well as their ingenuous and well-considered arrangement, and is one of the most
successful exhibitions ever held at the Foundation's premises. The presented
artwork included pieces by Yuri Albert, Nikita Alexeyev, Yuri Avvakumov,
Vagrich Bakhchanian, Alexei Buldakov, Olga Chernysheva, Michael Craig-Martin,
Eugenia Yemets, Elena Elagina and Igor Makarevich, Alexandra Galkina, Alexander
Glinitsky, Dmitry Gutov, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Alex Kats, Maria
Konstantinova, Joseph Kosuth, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ilya Trushevsky, Stas
Polnarev, Dmitry Tsvetkov, Spencer Tunick.
Thessaloniki Archeological
Museum will display have on view works from Alexander Djikia's series Variations on the Theme of Cretan-Mycenaean
Seals.
Haim Sokol will set up a sculptural installation entitled To All Those Who Once Lived Here
opposite the Passenger Station at the Thessaloniki Port,
that will become Stella Art Foundation's gift to the city and the Thessaloniki
Port Authority.
Finally, in the context of the project Atlantis. European Art 20 Years After the Iron Curtain – part of
the Biennale parallel program – the
Thessaloniki Port hosted a discussion on the theme Democracy in the Making attended by Mohammed Abuelnaga (art
director of the Alexandria Biennale), Stephanie Bertrand (the project curator),
Igor Makarevich and Elena Elagina (artists), Haim Sokol (artist), "Under
Construction" artistic group, Areti Leopoulou (curator of the Thessaloniki
Contemporary Art Center), Maria Maragu (art historian, president of AICA
Hellas), Thodoris Markoglu (curator of the State Contemporary Art Museum),
Christos Savvides (artBΟΧ.gr | creative arts
management), Efi Chalivopoulou (artist) and Lydia Hadjiakovou (artBΟΧ.gr | creative arts management).
